Maremma
The territory of Maremma is rich with naturalistic and has historic
appeal .
It is situated between the rolling inland hills and the Tyrrhenian. Many
important remnants of the splendid Etruscan civilisation are to be found
there.
A large number of the historical towns to be explored are of medieval origin:
narrow paved roads that run alongside ancient shops, small squares that
surround tiny churches and large sumptuous buildings. |

There are lots of surprises.
Castles and chapels hide in the silence of the cypress trees and
abbeys stand lost in time.
Forts, here and there, remind you of the once military importance
of this area. The Maremma is full of nature.
There are rolling planted fields and vast areas of protected
land that give refuge to the animals and pine forests.
There are hidden paths that lead through the woods of cork trees,
oaks, chestnut trees, mushrooms and ancient olive trees. The
Maremma hospitality is an art in itself: the cooking is based
on fish.
The famous "Caciucco" fish soup can be found on menus
everywhere. Both in the rustic inns and the internationally renowned
restaurants. The
wine is of Cabernet
and Sauvignon grapes.
Ornellaia and Sassicaia are two fine examples of the many wine-producing
cellars of this area.
The hospitality is best expressed in the high quality of the tourist organisation,
recreation and beach facilities.
Numerous festivities highlight and enrich a visit to Maremma; historical pageants,
sport and musical events.
